Setting

Unknown, claustrophobic place, near future. We remain in the same  space throughout the musical.  The setting is sparse, with rubble strewn over the set. A small fire is going downstage middle. Lighting is dim or nearly dark at the edges and back of set, and much better lit around fire, and cast react to the dark portions of set with fear or stress as it's either unknown or dangerous.

Overview

In the aftermath of a civilization-ending disaster, three people who have somehow survived find themselves trapped in an inescapable place.  They speculate on what has happened and who's to blame, but they ultimately realize that they are totally alone and must depend on each other as they establish norms and their futures.

Cast

Red (country baritone) is action oriented, 50’s, not much of a people person, independent, blue collar. He speaks his mind.

Wardrobe:  work boots, overalls, flannel shirt, red farmer’s cap.

Azula (alto) will argue and won’t back down.  She’s in her mid-30s, typically liberal,  well educated, bleeding heart, takes up causes.

Wardrobe: Business casual, ballet tights top and bottom, medium length skirt, jacket tied around her waist, scarf that she has used to tie up her hair.

Zeleny “Lenny” (tenor) embodies environmentalism.  He is new age, hippy-ish, in his mid-20s.  Into mushrooms and vegan food.  Tries to find middle ground.  Incredibly sad about the destruction of animals and plant life in the outside world, but trusts that mother earth will heal herself, even if he doesn’t see it happen.

Wardrobe:  Green vest, bohemian trousers, and a scally cap.
