I’m learning a language, I’d like to connect
Improve my vocabulary and speak in your own dialect
I’m searching the dictionary for the right turn of phrase
But I’m finding it difficult and I feel like I’m lost in a maze

Practicing parts of speech and conjugating verbs
All of this grammar my simple mind it really disturbs
I know I look awkward but I’m trying something new
A different perspective, a fresher way of thinking of you

I’m trying my best to know you: I don’t have a choice
I’ve been shouting in darkness every day and I’m losing my voice
So I’m picking up lingo, I’m learning new nouns
Acquiring the feel of your culture and hearing new sounds

Building a lexicon and learning how to talk
It’s hard on my ego cause I’m like a toddler learning to walk.
I know I sound awkward but I’m trying something new
A novel perspective, a different way of looking at you.

I’m learning a language, cause I want to relate
Improve my pronunciation and find a better cognate
Do me a favor and don’t judge me too hard
I’m trying to understand you and I’ve let down my guard.
