We skipped a step about the fundamental nature of the earth.
Though innovation was a welcome liberation from our hunger and our predators and our toil
We failed to anticipate the monster we created in a haphazard industrial birth

Yes our lives are easy but convenience was delivered with pernicious and substantial strings attached
We don’t conserve, we just consume, and we demand a constant flow of detrimental plastics and oil
Nasty work and murky water, filthy land and dirty air: chemicals we live with til the end of time
We’ve forgotten the importance of our flora and our fauna and maintaining rich and fertile soil

We evolved the means of killing from our dynamite and bullets to thermonuclear fusion
Flying overhead are drones of war that rain destruction unmanned, unseen, and unheard
Ideology and tribalism fuel the hate we feel as we stockpile and deploy our munitions
It’s fear, not connection, binding us together in an era undeniably absurd

The internet was heralded to bring us all together and connect all information in an ever-shrinking world
Instead we just amused ourselves in dingy echo chambers and confused what’s really true and truly real
To overlords of silicone we bow down with absurdity and click on all the boxes to appease robotic agents
Technological determinism welcomed voluntarily and no one sits behind the steering wheel.
